I really enjoyed Jake's blog post about Seinfeld because of his conviction. He 100% believes that Seinfeld is the best comedy of all time, and he provides evidence to support it, both subjective and objective. He talks about how every episode barely has anything to do with the next, relationships are short and often quickly forgotten, and how all of the main characters are generally terrible people. I haven't watched too much Seinfeld but I have definitely seen it and I do enjoy it. I get the sense that Jake enjoys it so much because it's not predictable and the characters aren't stereotypical, which I can also appreciate. I personally get very bored of the simple formula that many sitcoms have and Seinfeld has a very different rhythm to it which I enjoy. Jake also talks about how the characters ignore basic emotions and how doing so makes them appear funnier because that it the point of the show. Seinfeld will throw all logic and general reasoning out the window just for the sake of humor. I like seeing how passionate Jake is about this show and I definitely need to watch more Seinfeld.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dlz8DVn1Mjc My favorite TV show is The Eric Andre Show. It's a tv interview parody show with extremely niche, random, absurd, and insane humor. The show can appear very stupid and silly at first, but watching many of the sketches or interviews will quickly convince you of Eric's humor. One of the best parts about the show is that the skits always evolve as they're happening. In this skit, at first, Eric simply appears to be a crazed man who works on Wall Street. However, it quickly spirals out of control and just turns into Eric vomiting on command and screaming about abortion. This is the main appeal of the show. It's random and crazy and unpredictable, and, scientifically, we laugh hardest when we are surprised or don't expect something. This continually changing skit embodies that idea, and Eric's show reflects that as a whole. As for the reading, I would say that Eric's humor falls under relief humor. The show is essen...
Hell yeah you got it exactly right. It's all on Hulu, and they're reruns all the time. You don't need to watch in order to understand it.
ReplyDeleteDo think think it's the greatest of all time? Why or why not? How could we convince those who are skeptical of this claim?
ReplyDeleteI think your analysis definitely helps support the incongruity theory... Because "Seinfeld" throws basic logic and reasoning out the window, the viewer never know what to expect, and therefore is constantly taken aback (and subsequently amused) by each episode's plot-line (or lack thereof).
